I heard Jennie was coming on a visit. Myrtle Mack is home she has a nice little girl seven months old. Did you hear about Vernie and Mina running away and getting married a week ago today. It has made trouble on both sides for Jess and Frank planed to take them to Center City, Minn and get them married and Jen picked out the dress, but Mina got mad and coaxed Vernie to go sooner so they went up home and coaxed pa to take them to Grantsburg and he did. Your father has got over it and he says he never wants to see her face again, but your mother is different she says she is going to use the law. Jess says let them alone, they are the ones to suffer. She never would work so what does she want her for, she won't have to cloth her any more. Jess wants you to write to her and get her to leave them alone but don't tell her we told you for she is mad at jess because she thinks he is upholding them, but he is as mad as anyone, but what is the use of more trouble. I will close for this time. Write soon. LuLu, Jess and babys

Floyd Jesse10 Nick, born May 03, 1931 in Cushing, Polk Co., WI; died July 10, 1989 in Luck, Polk co., WI (died at Frederick Ramsey Hospital). He married Katherine Margaret Lisk June 07, 1958 in Wood River Baptist Church, Grantsburg, WI. Notes for Floyd Jesse Nick: Newspaper article- unknown paper Floyd Nick loses Arm In Grinder Accident Floyd Nick 24, who runs the blacksmith shop in Cushing, Wis., lost his right arm Monday morning when an emery wheel exploded, and flying fragments struck him. He said from his hospital bed on Tuesday: "I've never heard of a left handed blacksmith, but there's going to be one now." Nick had just purchased the new grinding machine and set it up. he had saved for over a year to buy the piece of equipment for his shop. Harvey Olson, of cushing, had just completed the wiring to the machine and Nick turned it on to test it. Olson said it appeared Nick was leaning over to shut off the machine, feeling that it was not operating properly, when the 14 inch stone wheel shattered. Several wedges hit Nick's arm, breaking it in three peices and mangling it. He was unconscious for a few minutes, and bleeding severely. Horace Wells of cushing had stopped into the shop to have some work done; he said Harvey Olson phoned a doctor and ambulance from Frederic, and called Edward Olson, the Cushing mail carrier who has had medical experience in the army. Ed olson managed to stop the bleeding until the doctor arrived. The arm was amputated just above the elbow, and Nick is reported to be "resting more comfortably" at the hospital today. Nick quit school when he was in the sixth grade to help his aging father in the blacksmith shop. After his father died, he took over, and has been working to build up the business, according to neighbors. He is unmarried. Nick has no medical or hospital insurance, and friends and neighbors in Cushing are taking up a collection to help him with his expenses. It is believed that a defect in the machine caused the stone to shatter, sending some chunks right through the wall. Another piece, according to reports, broke a two by four board.
