Baby Blanket in Cascade 220 Superwash
Pattern: Fiber Trends "Ribbons Baby Blanket"
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash
Needle Size: US 8
Update: After three rows of 15 of my last big stripe of pink, I realized I had no more pink yarn! Nor did I have any white or blue. Time to go back to yarn shop...and I'm not happy. Will this project ever end?
The dreaded baby blanket. I love the idea of baby blankets, but boy howdy, they take a long time! This project is a gift for my husband's coworker. I am recreating a family heirloom. Unfortunately, the family heirloom was crocheted and the only good picture I have of it has a baby laying in the middle of it. But, I soldier on.
Cascade 220 Superwash has a nice hand, though I'm very much hoping it softens a bit after washing. I chose wool because I think it is the best bet for a baby blanket. Wool is warm, even when wet, and if it catches fire it won't melt like plastic (acrylic) and hurt the baby. Sounds morbid, but it's a good thing to consider when making a gift that will be wrapped around a little one. Oh, and I think wool will last a lot longer with better quality than any man-made fiber.
The other reason I chose this yarn is because it came in the colors that I needed. Another nice thing about Cascade 220 - the color selection!
