Online news and opinion/humor

The Seattle Times: Julie's employer and a damn fine newspaper
New York Times: For solid national reporting
www.cnn.com: More national and breaking news
The Star Tribune: Julie's home state newspaper (Minneapolis/St. Paul)
Michael Moore: The social warrior and excellent filmmaker
Salon.com: Lots of good reading
The Onion: America's Finest Newspaper, a satirical look at today's news

Killing time

Real astrology: Rob Brezny's weekly forecast
Matt Fugate: Our friend Matt the stand-up comic
Oolong: This is a great site from Japan: this fellow loves his rabbit, Oolong. And Oolong has an amazing ability to balance items on his head.
Allied Chemical: An interesting collection of humor

Worthy causes

Pasado Safe Haven: An animal sanctuary in Monroe, Washington. They do incredible work. Adopt an animal today!
Communities Against Rape & Abuse: An organization Julie co-founded, and she built their web site.

PAWS: a premier wildlife organization in the Northwest, saving countless lives from songbirds to cougars to bears. They do it all, and they do an incredible job. They are always looking for dedicated volunteers. At right is Julie feeding some robins during one of my summers at PAWS.

The beautiful Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Where else can you visit the ocean, mountains, rain forest, desert and prairie in one day? (Okay, that would be a really long day, but it's feasible.)

Some highlights and information on visiting this beautiful place:

Washington wine country. Yes, they make wine here, and it's good! Visiting wine country is a great way to spend a day or two. At right is Rob while visiting Hedges winery. They were closed that day, but their grounds proved for an excellent photo opportunity. Visit the Washington winery's web site for more information.

Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier are both incredible attractions. When my Dad was here visiting in 1999 he took Rob and I on a trip in a 4-seater Cessna (no, he wasn't piloting the plane) and we flew over St. Helens and Rainier (these photos were taken on that trip). Rainier is a great place to ski in the winter months. And hiking at St. Helens in the summer is unmatched.

For more information on Mt. St. Helens, visit Gifford Pinchot National Forest and for information on Mt. Rainier, visit Mt. Rainier National Park.

For general visitor information, visit NWsource. And if you just want to see some cool stuff about what we're up to in Seattle, you can peruse current and back issues of our Pacific Northwest Magazine.
