Notes for Marian Nellie "Mae" Nick: Letter written by Marian Nick Doty to sister Susie Nick Nesbitt 1929, July 10th - Waite Park, Minnesota
Mrs. George W. Nesbitt Dear Sis and family- Well Ted and Viola went to a Bungle dance a few blocks from us tonite and as I'm alone and droping a line to Clara will write you also. I rec'd your letter tonite. We have about ten blocks to go for the mail and I walked it so was glad I got your letter. ted came home on Monday before the forth and Warren on Tues. he sure was surprised. Ted was home and surprised us with a new Shevelet car, a coup and he drove it down to Jennie's. He and I. and staid from Friday noon until Sat noon. She (Jennie) sure is busy with chickens ducks and turkeys. That is all you can see around there and she sure is working. Frank was haying. they all looked fine but Jennie was surprised at me so thin. She was afraid I would help with anything and Warren told me lay off working but I feel better doing something. I wrote Coventry yesterday. He wrote me to write him how i was feeling, I got the letter down to Jennies I guess he don't expect I'll get well right away. Some days I feel better than others, but my stomach never feels strong and sometimes it is terrible weak, at the top of it. But I still eat a lot. I'm anxious to know what Coventry will write me. I have not been weighed yet, but Warren is planing on going dwon to the city to bring a truck up for the Co. so he will bring our car down and leave it for us for a while as he expect to work on the truck and he thot Ted could take me in the car would be good for me. If Ted don't get work here Warren is going to get him a job in the truck with his company, but he wants him to stay home if he can. Guess you will have to drive down here for squash this fall as mine are growing swell. I sure have a big garden. I didn't get many strawberries either as was to dry but we have lots of rain now so the next time I'll get more. Well I must get too bed as I'm all in it's late. I have 60 chickens there just fine. No Violas fellow did not come up. Ted and her went to Little Falls during the day and to Pierzs to a dance at nite, with our car. Warren and I staid home all day alone, and I went down to the river and watched them both at the beach in the evening. Was a large crowd there. It's about 4 blocks from us but we took the trip to Jennies and I sure enjoyed it. I don't know how soon I can send that money as seems Warren only gives me enough to go on, but I'll soon be able to make some myself but now we will soon have things out of the garden so I can save more. I ought to have beans and peas next week. Well you must of had fun with the bed the forth. When are you going to Jennies. They have not much room to sleep but you may stand it one nite. Well I'm glad Vernie got out of the hospital but he will have to be careful now. How did he get the rupture. Say Susie what is Percy's address. I never can think where he is. so Hattie did not see her birdy? the forth. Well I saw mine and it seemed a lone time since I saw him in Duluth. Well I must get to bed as we washed today and I have to get up early to take carre of my chickens. It seems good to get back on the job again, my back is just fine now and I'm stronger in my body too can stand to do more all the time. Well I only wish you were nearer. you could help me hoe the garden then you would get the sun. I'm just as black as a nigger had my hair cut boy stile so George would laugh at me now, but my hair keeps getting thinner. Ted says I could go no where with him unless I keep my hat on. Well I must now go to sleep. Late of hour Marion
