We did it! We tied the knot on August 27, 2001, on a beautiful east shore beach in Kauai. We flew into Kauai on August 26 with one major mission for the day - find Rob's wedding outfit. We drove from North Shore to South Shore until we found the perfect outfit. The surf shorts Rob wore have a flaming skull on the side pocket. Too perfect. On the big day, we decided to surf before the wedding, instead of after, as originally planned. The surf wasn't that great, and we rented a couple of really crappy boards. I got tossed under a wave on one of my first tries and didn't recover. So I sat on the beach and watched Rob get chewed up by the waves. Then we went back to the hotel and played in the pool for a couple of hours. At about 5pm, we met our wedding planner/minister in the lobby and headed to the beach for the ceremony. It was a short ceremony, about 15 minutes. Then photographs. Then an amazing dinner on Poipu Beach at the Beach House. We toasted the event with our fancy champagne flutes sent to us by Rob's Mom for the occasion. The rest of the honeymoon was bliss. Kauai is a beautiful place. Each shore is a different type of place, and we stayed on the South Shore - the land of sun and beaches. But we ventured all over the island, exploring the rugged and beautiful North Shore, the bustling East, the Waimea Canyon and Na Pali coast on the West. We took a katamaran trip to the Na Pali coast, which also took us to an excellent snorkeling spot not far from the Forbidden Island (where about 200 Hawaiians live according to the native ways. No one is allowed on the Island.). As we were getting into the water, we were greeted by Sammy, the monk seal. Monk seals are critically endangered (only about 1,200-1,500 exist today) and are all around the waters of Kauai.
Rob also saw several green sea turtles in the water while surfing, also a threatened species.
